The Larson Marks Racing team wrapped up the season’s final trip to the Northeast on Monday night.
The World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series competed at Port Royal (Penn.) Speedway on Saturday where Shane Stewart rebounded from a blown motor to finish just outside the top 10 and earn the KSE Hard Charger award for the night. Sunday’s show at Weedsport (N.Y.) Speedway was cancelled due to heavy rain and last night at Ransomville (N.Y.) Speedway saw Stewart round out the podium.
Saturday night at Port Royal, Stewart qualified 12th in Flight B of time trials and finished seventh in the fourth and final heat race of the night. On the opening lap of the Last Chance Showdown, the LMR No. 2 unfortunately suffered a blown engine and Stewart returned to the pits. The Larson Marks crew quickly went to work to change the power plant in the car and the team was able to take a provisional to start 25th for the 30-lap feature event.
Stewart immediately went to work once the green flag dropped and was up to 20th by lap 4. The Bixby, Okla., native gained three more positions by the halfway point of the race. In the second half of the main event, Stewart was able to gain six more spots to finish 11th and earn the KSE Hard Charger award.
“Nights like Saturday really make you humble and respect this sport,” said Stewart. “After we blew an engine in the Last Chance Showdown, my guys did a great job changing motors to enable us to take a provisional. I was glad I was able to rebound and get a decent run in for them.”
Last night at Ransomville Speedway, Stewart qualified fourth and won his heat race from the pole. The Craftsman Club Dash inversion draw was zero, lining the pilot of the No. 2 up on the outside of row two, where he earned the third starting spot for the main event. Stewart ran in the fourth position until the final lap of the feature, when the driver in front of him blew a tire coming to the finish line, allowing Stewart to gain a spot and finish third.
“Lately I’ve been the one that’s been blowing the tires,” said Stewart on the front stretch. “That was unfortunate for David [Gravel], I really don’t think I would have passed him there. I was hoping the lapped cars would have played a little bit more of a factor there, but I’m thankful to be here. My guys gave me a great car all night, we were fast right from the start, so I definitely have to thank them. I’m looking forward to getting back to my home state this weekend at Salina.”
