The Larson Marks Racing team headed north this weekend for two nights of racing in the Dakotas. Shane Stewart advanced seven positions Friday night at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, N.D., for a 4th-place finish. On Father’s Day, Stewart started on the pole of the feature event for the first time this season and led all 35 laps to earn the team’s fifth win of the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series season.
Coming off of Wednesday night’s win at Granite City Speedway in Sauk Rapids, Minn., Stewart qualified 11th and finished third in his heat race Friday night at River Cities Speedway. After starting 11th in the feature event, Stewart was up to sixth by lap 10. In the closing laps, Stewart raced his way up to fourth, earning the team another top-five finish.
After a rare Saturday off, the Larson Marks team unloaded at Brown County Speedway on Sunday for their first ever visit and the World of Outlaw’s first trip since 1985. The Bixby, Okla. native timed in fifth quickest in qualifying and finished second in his heat race. For the first time this season, Stewart won the dash to earn the pole starting position for the feature event. He went on to lead every circuit of the 35-lap feature event to earn the team’s fifth win of the 2016 World of Outlaws season.
“Having Jenn and Nixon here makes it that much more special,” said Stewart, who was joined in victory lane by his girlfriend and their young daughter. “Track position was just everything tonight. My guys gave me a great car all night, and we finally got a dash draw that benefitted us and we were able to take advantage of it. I just can’t thank everyone that is involved with this team enough. I’ve got to thank [co-owners] Justin [Marks] and Kyle [Larson], ENEOS, Go-Pro, American Born Moonshine, Tommy Rider does a great job on our motors and Cool Chassis. It’s a pleasure to drive the No. 2 day in and day out; it’s really a dream come true.”
