The NASCAR XFINITY Series returned to Chicagoland Speedway for the second time in 2015 on Saturday evening. Kyle Larson was behind the wheel of the No. 42 ENEOS Chevrolet Camaro for the 200-lap race. After posting the fourth fastest 10-lap average in Friday’s final practice session, hopes were high that Larson could break through for his first victory of the season at the 1.5 mile speedway.
Larson started sixth and wasted no time driving racing up to third, where he spent the remainder of the evening. Although he was very pleased with the handling of his car, the team made a small chassis adjustment on the final pit stop of the race with around 60 laps to go.
The race saw several teams stretch fuel to the end of the 300-mile event. Unfortunately with less than five laps to go Larson ran out going into turn one. He coasted the car back to pit lane losing numerous positions in the process. After returning to the track, Larson crossed the finish line in 22nd.
