Pit+Paddock Displays Ultimate Integra Type R at 2022 SEMA Show

Partnering with our friends at Pit+Paddock for the 2022 SEMA Show, we decided to expand the ENEOS activation with a show car contest, where the lucky winner received a feature vehicle spot front and center in the Pit+Paddock booth. Through our combined efforts on social media, Alex Alfaro was selected by public vote and our judges’ unanimous decision. His DC2 Integra Type R represented the ultimate JDM build thanks to being modified with some of the rarest parts in existence.

The Southern California resident imported his Type R from Canada in 2014, after which Alfaro transformed it into the ultimate JDM sports car. The chassis was stripped down and restored by Auto Explosion, then sent to 427 Garage where the suspension components were powder coated, then secured with new hardware along with Mugen bushings.

But the heart and soul of this Type R is special: Alfaro originally spoke with the founder of JUN Auto Mechanic, Junichi Tanaka a few years back about acquiring a B-series engine for the ITR but ran into difficulties because finding a good base motor proved difficult. Tanaka’s unfortunate passing in 2019 added another layer of complexity but Alfaro connected with Kei Tanaka, Junichi’s son, who was able to resume negotiations and complete the motor — coincidentally a ‘97-spec motor to match his chassis year — in honor of his late father. Alfaro now has the distinct honor of owning the last JUN Auto B18C-R crate engines to leave this famous Saitama-based tuning shop.

After it debuted at Wekfest LA with this most recent setup, Alfaro’s ITR set the Internet on fire and obviously caught our attention when it was submitted as a candidate for our SEMA Show Car Contest. At the time, it rolled on an extremely rare set of forged 16” Work WAE wheels, something that hadn’t been seen since the early 2000s, and was used strictly for circuit racing (typically seen in 17” variations, the last known 16” variant was used on a Spoon Sports endurance S2000 in 2002).

At the SEMA Show, however, Alfaro broke out an even rarer set of wheels: brand new MD5s from Sure+; the original manufacturer involved with designing the Mugen M7 (Alfaro also owns a set of MD7s, which are essentially the original M7 face without the Mugen logo). The MD5 is a five-spoke design utilizing the same M7/MD7 barrel with stainless hardware (a closer look at the barrel edge reveals the M7 design).

Alfaro’s attention to detail is what helped him create a JDM masterpiece and the ideal candidate to represent ENEOS and Pit+Paddock at the 2022 SEMA Show!
