Why low viscosity?
Low viscosity oil, such as 0W-20 synthetic oil, is becoming increasingly popular among vehicle manufacturers. This is because they:
- Are thinner and more fluid, and flow more easily through a vehicle’s engine, providing better lubrication and reducing friction between moving parts, which can help prolong an engine’s life
- Improve fuel efficiency by reducing the amount of energy needed to pump oil through the engine, resulting in better gas mileage
ENEOS works in R&D with Japanese automakers to create their lubricant specifications in order to help meet their product goals and provides them with factory fill fluids. We have developed formulas that provide all the benefits of low viscosity while protecting engine components.
What products do you have for Japanese hybrid cars?
ENEOS has worked specifically with Japanese automakers to provide engine oils and transmission fluid suitable for the increased economy of their hybrid and lower fuel consumption vehicles. We were first to produce 0W-16 oil for factory fill in the US, and we’ve been producing 0W-8 in Japan for over a decade, including for factory fill of many newer Japanese vehicles.
ENEOS 0W-8 X Prime ENEOS market tested 0W-8 in Japan for a decade while working with Japanese automakers and JASO to develop 0W-8 GLV-1 standards. This optimized formula provides extreme fuel efficiency with maximum engine protection and meets JASO GLV-1.
ENEOS 0W-16 Optimal for hybrid and ECO cars where 0W-16 is specified, including newer Toyota Camry and Prius C, Honda Fit, and Honda Hybrid vehicles including Accord, Odyssey, CR-Z, Fit, and others.
ENEOS 0W-20 Suitable for the majority of hybrids, LEVs, and fuel-efficient vehicles where a 0W-20 weight oil is specified.
ENEOS Transmission fluid Hybrids tend to use low viscosity transmission fluids to maximize its fuel economy benefits. Our ECO ATF PLUS and ECO CVT fluid are both low viscosity, broad match fluids suitable for many Japanese cars including hybrids.

Why do I need a "0W" oil when I live in a warm climate?
Oil has changed a great deal from the day when we chose our oil based on the climate that we live. Today engines are designed to operate with specific oils. “0W” oil is designed to provide quick lubrication at start up for maximum engine protection and instant operating viscosity, leading to better fuel economy and performance.
Therefore, a “0W” oil can still be the best choice, even if you operate your vehicle in warm climates like Hawaii, Arizona, or Florida, particularly when recommended for your vehicle.
For more information about 0W oil in warm climates, view our post
For more information about our 0W motor oils, visit www.eneos.us/products/
Why are transmission fluids different colors?
It is up to the OEMs. The color has nothing to do with the specifications or formulations, it is just a dye. One of the reasons came from the introduction of CVTF; the idea was to avoid accidental use by using different colors. Since there is no industry standard and colors vary between OEMs, it should not be relied upon to tell what component the fluid is for. Always read the label.

What is Prop 65?
California Proposition 65 resulted in a warning label for products sold in California, including automotive lubricants, which contain hazardous ingredients. Because the California market is so large, most manufacturers include the “Prop 65″ warning on products sold nationwide. Bottom line: if products carry this warning label it indicates the presence of one or more hazardous ingredients. Due to our environmental and safety commitments, ENEOS products do not require this warning label.
