Hot Tokyo Nights With Super Street and Final Bout
If you know where to look or have friends who can guide the way, there are plenty of opportunities to find car related activities beyond Tokyo Auto Salon. After all, we didn’t just want Sam Du to only spend his time at the show; he had to get out and see what car life is like outside Makuhari Messe.
Good thing Super Street has friends like ENEOS ambassador Dai Yoshihara and Ilia Smolov from Final Bout, a US-based drift organization that’s gained popularity for staying true to grassroots drifting. With Ilia’s help, we were able to pull in a handful of locals from Team Freee’s and Lowbrain to join us for a mini meet at one of Japan’s 14,000 ENEOS gas stations!
Having met these guys nearly 10 years ago, Ilia has remained in touch since his Risky Devil street drifting days, and had plenty of memories to share with everyone while hanging out in Shibuya.
For Dai, going back to an ENEOS gas station brought back fond memories of his earlier years in Japan. “ENEOS is huge in Japan,” he said. “I used to work at one, so it brought back lots of memories!” Some work benefits he enjoyed were discounts on car supplies, being able to use the garage to work on his own cars whenever there was downtime, and he could take all the disposed tires he wanted to use for drifting. “I never had to purchase new tires back then,” he laughs.
Needless to say, Sam and Dai were able to form new memories by cruising the streets of Tokyo with the help of their new friends.
