Kraus Secures Back-to-Back Second Place Podium at Gateway
Following his second place finish at the NAPA AUTO PARTS 150, ENEOS-sponsored Bill McAnally Racing team driver Derek Kraus took another second at the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East-West combination race at World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway on August 24, 2019. Kraus was trying to repeat his win last year, and was able to reach second place on the final lap in the #16 NAPA AUTO PARTS Toyota Camry but could go no further after the event was shortened to 98 laps due to time constraints.
Kraus started 12th on the grid and found himself challenged to gain ground as the pace saw several cautions in the first half of the race. He said, “We had our NAPA Toyota set up for a long run. We had to manage our position and stay as close to the front as possible. We had a really good last restart and finished second — a really good race and points day.”
For BMR teammate Brittney Zamora, the final results weren’t as positive as the #99 NAPA Belts & Hoses/ENEOS Toyota Camry experienced mechanical trouble on lap 27, ending the event early with a 16th place finish.
Kraus extends his lead in the championship standings to 29 points with this runner-up finish, adding to his collection of three wins, seven top-five and nine top-10 finishes in ten K&N West starts. Zamora remains second in rookie points and fifth in the overall series standings; she has five top-five and six top-10 finishes in ten starts.
NEXT RACE
Kraus and Zamora make their way to Idaho Meridian Speedway on September 28th for the next K&N West event.
