The Larson Marks Racing team wrapped up the opening weekend during the Month of Money on Saturday night. On Thursday, the team completed the final 37 laps of the rain postponed event at Deer Creek Speedway in Spring Valley, Minn., from June 29. They then followed that up with a two-day show at Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, Wis., on Friday and Saturday.
The Larson Marks Racing team traveled back to Deer Creek Speedway on Thursday to complete the remainder of the rain postponed event from June 29. Originally Stewart qualified 13th and finished fourth in the opening heat race. He started 10th for the 40-lap main event and was up to eighth when rain came on Lap 3. Fast-forward a week, Stewart restarted the remaining 37 laps from eighth and was up to the top-five by the halfway point of the race. In the closing 10 laps, the Bixby, Okla., native was able to gain two more positions and earn a third-place finish.
On Friday night at Cedar Lake Speedway, Stewart was the 30th out of 33 cars to go out for qualifying and earned the 14th-fastest lap time. He started fourth in the second heat race and gained one spot to finish third. Stewart lined up 10th for the start of the 40-lap main event but unfortunately had some right-rear tire bleeder issues resulting in a 14th-place finish.
The following night, Stewart earned the fourth-fastest lap time in qualifying and won his heat race from the pole starting position. The Craftsman Club Dash draw was an eight and Stewart lined up to start fifth. He earned the seventh-starting spot for the 40-lap main event. The pilot of the No. 2 raced as high as fourth before slipping back to finish ninth.
“Tough weekend for us,” said Stewart. “But that’ll happen when you’re racing with the best drivers in the country. It felt great to get a podium finish on Thursday, but unfortunately, we had bleeder issues in the right-rear tire the following night causing handling issues. We will regroup and I am definitely looking forward to getting back to Attica [Raceway Park] and Eldora [Speedway] next weekend.”
