Shane Stewart and Larson Marks Racing earned two top-two finishes this weekend in their respective home states. The team earned a runner-up finish Friday night at The Dirt Track at Charlotte Motor Speedway and kept it going on Monday, scoring their third win of the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series season at Lawrenceburg (Ind.) Speedway.
Stewart earned the team’s first quick time of the season Friday night at The Dirt Track. After finishing second in the heat race, the team advanced to the dash and earned the fourth starting spot for the main event. The Bixby, Okla. native took the lead on lap five and led until the last corner of the final lap to earn the runner-up finish.
On Memorial Day at Lawrenceburg Speedway, the Larson Marks team timed in eighth quickest in qualifying and won their heat race from the outside of the front row, advancing into the night’s dash. Stewart gained two positions in the dash to earn the third starting position for the feature event.
Stewart was up to second by the second caution of the race on lap five and took the lead on the ensuing restart. With 10 laps remaining, Rico Abreu challenged Stewart for the lead and the two swapped positions back and forth for several laps in lapped traffic. Stewart secured the top spot and led the final six circuits for the team’s third win of the World of Outlaws season.
“I just have to thank everybody that has been working really really hard on this LMR racecar,” said Stewart. “They’re been putting in a tremendous amount of overtime and whenever you can win for them, it makes you feel really good. I try to drive hard every night even and the guys work their tails off, but it’s still hard to get a win in this series.”
“I just have to thank [co-owners] Justin Marks and Kyle Larson, ENEOS, GoPro, American Born Moonshine, ParkerStore, Cool Chassis, Rider Engines, they all do a great job for us,” Stewart continued. “I’m just very happy that I can win on Memorial Day. I know it’s a special weekend, and a hard one for some people, so I have to thank all the men and women who serve our country. They give us the opportunity to come out here and do what we love.”
